Sofia Frid Provides tutoring in Mathematics and Science.
Sofia is a highly experienced Physics teacher, who started working with our school two years ago and successfully tutors Mathematics. It includes remediation and enrichment.
In addition, she successfully increases students’ scores on ACT test in Mathematics and Science.
Josef works for Stella Academy starting the end of 2015. He is a senior in Illinois State University getting education as a Chemistry teacher.
Meanwhile, in Stella Academy, Jacob learns our Mathematics Program and is in a process of moving from assisting level to the level of an independent instructor in several areas of Vika-Math.
In addition, Jacob teaches English as a second language for our bilingual children.
Besides all of this, Jacob participates in creating science-curriculum for the new school year.
Classes concentrate on developing children’s ability to make independent decisions based on reality: children learn to identify and fix own mistakes, make the easiest scientific measurements, and make first in their lives high tech projects.
Mathematics: emphasis on calculations and measurements.
English/Russian: emerging reading and writing
Social Science: basic traits, human emotions, respect to the will of others
Science:
Boarding games:
Physical Education:

The classes concentrate on developing students’ Russian and English active vocabulary. There are two forms of education that intervene – students have short lessons (20 min long) when they develop fine motor skills and 20 – 40 min lessons involving projects, which require moving around.
The program will include:
The class concentrates on developing understanding of main principles of geometry and fundamentals of drafting – orthogonal projections.
The class includes measurements and estimation. It also involves construction problems based on understanding symmetry and similarity.
Saturday 3:40 pm
Geometry Exploration prepares students to the challenges of High School Geometry. The class involves a lot of construction problems.
The students start with sketches of word problems and constructions, where they can use protractor, ruler, and compass. Later, the students learn to construct figures using only compass and straight edge.
This class runs without homework.
The program concentrates on teaching how to approach challenging word problems. Particularly, the students will learn how to
At the end of this class, the students will be able solve challenging multi-step word problems
Fluency with mental mathematics required in order to enter this class.
Mental Math Intense teaches mental math strategies in a fast pace manner.
Those strategies are now required by Common Core State Standards as part of early algebra, but they are not taught well in schools.
A benchmark for the program is Russian 3rd graders’ mental mathematics worksheets. It includes such problems as 17×7 or 95 over 19. The program is based on understanding number properties on the level of application rather than on “tricks” and memorization.
